What is a Pixel Experience Rom?

Pixel experience is an Android custom rom which brings Pixel goodies that includes live wallpapers, Google fonts, pixel launcher, Gcam & more. It makes you feel like using a Google Pixel smartphone.

Pixel Experience Rom, is one of the most popular aftermarket firmware available for many Android devices, which aims to provide Google Pixel like Experience to non-Pixel smartphones.

Now some of you may know about a new version of this Rom which is recently released, and it is known as “Pixel experience Rom Plus Edition”. I will also be reviewing and showing a step by step guide to install the Plus Edition in the second half of the article. I will also let you know, how the Plus Edition is different from the normal edition and what are the new features.

Now, if you are a guy who loves Google Pixel phones and can’t afford to buy expensive smartphones, then you can just install Pixel Experience ROM in your device to get yourself the feel and look of Pixel device. This custom ROM will transform your device into a Google Pixel with all the scintillating features.

It is very identical to the original Google Rom so it manages to give you a vast number of customizations with all the necessary ingredients to customize your device.

By Default, you will get a Pixel launcher which is absolutely super-fast. From app Launching to multitasking, everything is snappier. I personally very much fancied about the app transitions which are quite refined. Now, when it comes to advanced features and customization, Pixel rom flunks a little bit. I mean, if you compare it with some feature rich Custom Roms like Resurrection Remix, Havoc OS etc, it feels sort of murky.

Of course, dark theme is available inside settings under display, if this is something that excites you. Previously this feature was broken and it’s not working as intended and finally with the latest stable release we got to see the dark theme working throughout the system without any issues.

Performance – Pixel Experience Rom

In terms of performance there is no doubt that this rom is amazing and provides smoother experience throughout the system. Also, thanks to the developers, this Rom is much optimised to get most out of the silicon.

From app launching to routine tasks everything is snappier. I mean, if you are looking for phenomenal smooth and pure Android experience then definitely this rom stand out from your expectations. When it comes to big games like PUBG & ASPHALT 9 you will be amazed with the performance.

I have played PUBG at ultra-high settings in HDR mode and believe me the performance super smooth. There is no lag or stutter or even any frame drops. The gameplay was smooth and the same thing goes with the asphalt 9 legends.

Now, if you are a number guy. Here are test scores, that I ran with some Benchmarking apps like Geekbench and ANTUTU on Pocophone f1.

Battery Life – Pixel Experience Rom

Well, if we talk about the batter life. Pixel Experience Rom will not disappoint you either as on my daily day to day usage I got around 8+ hours of screen on time (SOT) with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, location services tuned on, which is truly insane and better then some Company developed Android custom skins like MIUI, One UI etc.

For a fair and minimal usage this rom helps to survive the whole day without any issues. As, I told you earlier, I have played PUBG for about 36 Minutes and still the battery consumption was around 7%, which is amazing considering the fact that this is a Custom ROM.

Pixel Experience Plus edition is a brand-new update from the developers and as of now it is only available for limited number of devices. It is basically an advanced version to Pixel Experience Rom. Just like C & C++. The main goal of Plus edition is to bring some extra features over the normal edition.

As we all know pixel experience is a minimal custom ROM that offers bare minimum features. Compared to Other ROMS, Pixel Rom won’t let you customize more according to your fancy. This is where Plus Edition comes into the picture. Pixel Experience Plus Edition brings a few extra features over normal edition & provides minor tools help in customizing the system UI to some extent. So, without wasting much time lets discuss some of the new features of the Rom.

1. Screen Recorder

With the Plus Edition based On Android 10, you can now use a hidden screen recorder inside your system. Now in order to use it, within the power menu, long pressing on the Screenshot button invokes the built-in screen recorder.

As of now, you can only record the sound from the microphone and unfortunately there is no option to capture the system Audio which is sort of a bummer. Hopefully, the future builds of Android 10 may bring more enhancements to the built-in screen recorder framework.

2. Custom Screenshots

The plus edition lets you take a custom Screenshot. From the Power Menu, you can simply long-press on the screenshot button. This will let you select any part of the screen. Once it’s done, you can confirm it to save the custom screenshot.

3. Caffeine

Caffeine is a brand-new toggle you get to see in Plus edition inside the quick toggle section. This allows the user to temporarily disable the screen lock or sleep mode. You can consider it as a shortcut to increase the screen time out limit.

4. Hide Notch

Finally, inside Display settings. Now you can hide the notch space on devices like Poco F1, OnePlus 6, which is a long-awaited feature by the pixel experience fans.

5. Default Camera

The plus edition also includes a brand-new default camera. With this edition we get a super stable GCAM 6 which works fine without any issues. Some devices Like Redmi K20 Pro, also comes with Built-in MIUI 11 camera which is amazing.

6. Hide Navigation Bar Pill

Inside System Setting, you can enable the full-screen gestures that hide both the navigation bar and the Pill for a seamless full-screen gesture experience.

7. Resigned System Update Page

The Plus Edition brings a resigned system update page where you can find more information about the change log of the current build and OTA updates.

Performance

Lastly, when it comes to performance, older devices like Poco F1 support has improved. This time developer has tweaked a lot to deliver a much better performance. There is a zero percent lag or stutters I have encountered in terms of app animations & transitions.

Also, the Plus Edition brings major enhancements to the in-display fingerprint sensor. This way you can unlock the phone much faster. Also, devices like Redmi K20 Pro comes with the default brand new improved kernel, that delivers the butter smooth Android experience.

How to Install Pixel Experiance Rom

Now, if you have a supported device and you are curious enough to try out this Pixel Experience Rom. Then here is an In-detailed step by step guide to install this Rom on any supported device. Also, this procedure is universal and can be used on any supported device.

Pre-Requisites:

• Unlocked Boot loader
• TWRP custom recovery has installed
• Backup Your ROM. Everything will be erased.

Downloads:

• Pixel Experience ROM Android 10
• TWRP Recovery
• Disable Force Encryption (TREBLE)

Installation Guide:

• First Remove All Lock Screen Password, Pins, Fingerprints, Sign out from Google Accounts / Samsung / MI Accounts.
• Boot into TWRP -> Wipe -> advanced wipe -> System, Data, Dalvik / Art, Cache
• Install ZIP -> PixelROM.zip & Flash It. (Don’t Flash Apps it included by Default)
• Reboot Enjoy.

If you Face any boot loop try to boot back to recovery then wipe the internal storage (WIPE – FORMAT DATA – type “YES” to remove encryption. This will remove all data on your phone. So, backup all photos & videos to computer before doing this thing.

Overall, I would say, Pixel Experiance Rom and the Plus Edition is an improved Android 10 custom ROM which provides tons of amazing features, that you will only get in Pixel devices and is custom rom is super stable to use it as a daily driver.
