We all know that Lineage OS is one of the most popular aftermarket firmware which is currently in extent for innumerable smartphones and tablets. Lineage OS 16 brings pure stock Android experience based on Android 9.0 Pie for POCO F1 and I am thrilled to say now that it has become official.

Anyway, the initial impressions of Lineage OS 16 is pretty much straight forward. I have been using this ROM for a while and I really love it. The good thing about official custom ROMs is you will get OTA updates like the normal MIUI. Inside Settings -> System -> Updater, where you will find the new updates of the ROM.

Now, Let’s have a look at the Installation process of Lineage OS 16 and I will be using PocoPhone F1 as a reference device.

Lineage OS 16 Installation Guide:

  1. Unlocked Bootloader (Guide)
  2. Install TWRP recovery (Guide)
  3. Go To TWRP -> Wipe -> Advanced WIPE -(Select – System, Cache, Data & Dalvik)
  4. Then First Flash Vendor & Firmware.
  5. Then Flash Lineage OS Official and GAPPS (Nano Or Pico ARM64 Only)
  6. If you want to Root then Flash Magisk
  7. Reboot the device

Features:

When it comes to features, sadly, dark mode won’t work with notifications. Even though, if you have set the device’s theme MODE to dark, the notifications are still using a light theme which is sort of a bummer. Also, there is a built-in application which you may find inside the app drawer called recorder. Using this, you can record the screen or sound with one single tap. As of now, there are just basic stuff from Lineage OS 15, but I hope we will see some new features in the upcoming updates.

Performance:

Moving on to the performance, I would say it’s butter smooth. All of the applications open up faster. There is no lag or stutter you may face at all. Everyday tasks can be done with ease.

I have played big games like asphalt 9 legends and the gameplay was super smooth. When it comes to PUBG, you will face some minor frame drops. Well, I would say this is not an issue with the custom ROM. Perhaps, the recent update of an app is not optimized properly for Android devices.

Overall, I loved the performance. It is impressive and smooth. When it comes to normal applications or games and definitely, it will stand out of your expectations. As usual, like other ROMS, I ran benchmark applications like Geekbench and ANTUTU and these are the scores which I got on my phone. I would say the scores are worse but trust me there is some problem with these apps themselves and it may not impact the performance at all.

Battery:

Finally, when it comes to battery life, I would say it’s dope. I get around 5+ hours of screen on time with a minimal usage like using maps, listening to music, and watching videos.

While gaming, I have noticed the battery consumption was very less. I have played PUBG for around 2 HOURS and the battery consumption was around 20% which is super insane.

Conclusion:

Definitely this is the much-anticipated update. You can use it as your daily driver without any doubt. You will get OTA’S features like WIFI, BLUETOOTH, LTE, VOLTE, FINGERPRINTS, FACE UNLOCK, BANKING APPLICATIONS and they will work without any issues.
